PROBLEM: How can a quadriplegic turn on/off an electrical switch [without help] from across the room? The Palo Alto High School Robotics Team, mentored by Chris Tacklind, took a general idea that Henry Evans had, and created a prototype solution to this problem called LASERFINGER. The project was funded by MIT/Lemelson in 2007, and Henry, Chris and the team all flew to MIT to present the work.
